Quick BIO
Dr. Brien K. Ashdown earned a Ph.D. in cultural and developmental psychology from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri in 2009. He is currently a Professor of Psychology at Albizu University in Miami, Florida. Before joining Albizu, he was an Associate and Assistant Professor at institutions in Alaska, New York, and the United Arab Emirates. His scholarship focuses on how cultural factors impact the social development of adolescents and emerging adults, and on the role of cultural capital in community development. Much of his scholarship is based on nearly twenty years of ongoing field work in Guatemala. He has taught numerous courses including child development, adolescent psychology, death and dying, cultural psychology, statistics, research methods, human sexuality, and community psychology. He currently serves as an associate editor for the journal Community Development and the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, and has served as the President of the Society for Cross-Cultural Research and the International Society of Interpersonal Acceptance-Rejection, as well as the Chair of the Committee on International Relations in Psychology of the American Psychological Association.
I'm really interested in working with the network to learn how to better ensure that cultural capital and wellbeing is included in community development education.
